Eric Moore is entering his 27th year of being the Head Coach of Center Grove Football program. Before coming to Center Grove, he was the head man at Charlotte High School in Florida where he was twice named “Coach of the Year.” His record overall is 303 -86. Here at CG, he has earned a record of 255 - 81. Coach Moore was the Indiana 2023 North/South All-Star Head Coach. In addition, he was the Indiana Football Coach of the Year in 2000, 2008, 2015, 2019, 2020 and 2022.. Coach Moore was the 2020 All American Bowl National Coach of the Year and is one of 3 finalists for the NFL High School Coach of the Year across the USA. Coach Moore is also a 2024 inductee into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame. Lastly, in 2021 Coach Eric Moore was inducted in to the Indiana High School Football Hall of Fame.
2024 was another excellent year, as he led the Trojans another semi-state appearance. The Trojans have accumulated 5 state titles, and 3 runner-up finishes during his 25 years of coaching. Three of the State Championships were in consecutive years - 2022, 2021 and 2020. Coach Moore retired as the Head Track Coach at the end of the 2023 season after 24 seasons. He had at least one trackster on the podium at the State Meet every year he coached. Moore graduated from Indiana University where he played football under Head Coaches Corso, Wyche, and Mallory. He credits a lot of his philosophy to Bill Mallory. In all, he has coached over 200 athletes that have gone on to earn D-1 scholarships. His athletes have historically been strong students and are mainstays being named All MIC -Academic Honorees. Players have gone on to attend top academic institutions like Notre Dame, Michigan, Stanford, West Point, Air Force, Tennessee, Ohio State, Vanderbilt to name a few. So far at Center Grove he has coached 5 future NFL players, 3 Gatorade Players of the Year, and 1 Indiana Mr. Football.
He feels that the Center Grove Community is his family. Coach is proudest of his 5 children. His son, Tyson, is the Head Football Coach at Seymour HS. His daughter, Hannah, is the Cheer Coach at Columbus East HS and an elementary education teacher. Jackson is a barber, Hayden is entering her senior year at Ball State University and the youngest daughter Sydney will be a freshmen at Ball State. This season hopes to be another successful year with a lot of talent. Regardless, Coach Moore always sends them to the field with this quote, “I love you guys and I’m proud to be your Coach”
